New Frog Species Discovered
Recently, researchers announced the discovery of Leptobrachium aryatium, a new frog species named after Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati, following a 21-year-long study in Assam’s Garbhanga Reserve Forest.
- The species is named after the college that helped Aryanagar — once known as “Sharabbhati” for its country liquor trade — rebrand itself with dignity in 2022.
- The frog, discovered in the Garbhanga Reserve Forest bordering Meghalaya, features fiery orange-and-black eyes and a unique reticulated throat pattern.
- The genus Leptobrachium includes 38 species distributed across southern China, India, Southeast Asia, and the Philippines.
- Its “smoother temporal structure” in mating calls helped differentiate it from similar species like ....
