Rushikonda Beach: Blue Flag Certification Restored
On 24th March 2025, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Minister unfurled the Blue Flag at Rushikonda Beach, Visakhapatnam, marking its reinstatement after a brief withdrawal due to maintenance issues.
- Rushikonda Beach is the only Blue Flag beach in Andhra Pradesh and one of 13 in India.
- The state government has granted ‘industry’ status to tourism, aiming to attract entrepreneurs and introduce new initiatives like beach shacks with alcohol service.
What is the Blue Flag Certification?
- The Blue Flag is an international eco-label awarded to beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators that meet high environmental and safety standards.
