Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan Sign Border Demarcation Deal
On 13th March 2025, the Presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan signed an agreement to demarcate their disputed border, aiming to resolve long-standing territorial conflicts that led to deadly skirmishes in recent years.
- The border between the two countries has witnessed sporadic deadly clashes over access to water and natural resources since 1991.
- Under the agreement, Kyrgyzstan will receive 25 square kilometers from Tajikistan in exchange for land and improved access to shared water resources.
- Several controversial roads will be designated as neutral and open for use by both nations.
