Clause 6 of Assam Accord
- In February 2020, a government-appointed committee headed by retired High Court judge Biplab Kumar Sarma had submitted its recommendations for implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. Since then, the government has not made the report public.
- However, recently, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), one of the signatories to the accord, released the report independently.
- The Committee was appointed by Ministry of Home Affairs in 2019 with the brief to define ‘Assamese People’ and suggest measures for the safeguard of their rights. The definition of ‘Assamese people’ has been a subject of discussion for decades.
