China's New Export Control Law Comes into Effect
On 1st December, 2020, China’s Export Control Law (ECL) officially took effect. On October 17, 2020, the National People’s Congress Standing Committee passed the ECL to unify the pre-existing legal framework composed of several regulations, which aims to consolidate existing mechanisms for safeguarding the national interest in response to foreign trade pressure.

- Controlling Authority: The law is to be administered by the State Export Control Administrative Departments (SECADs) of both the State Council (China’s top governmental body) and the Central Military Commission (the top authority over China’s military).
