Indian Navy Commissions ‘INS Nistar’

On 18th July 2025, the Indian Navy commissioned INS Nistar, the first indigenously designed and constructed Diving Support Vessel (DSV), in Visakhapatnam.

What is INS Nistar?

  • A state-of-the-art Diving Support Vessel (DSV) built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited, the first of two such ships.
  • Equipped for saturation diving, submarine rescue, and deep-sea salvage operations up to 300 meters.
  • Acts as a ‘Mother Ship’ for Deep Submergence Rescue Vessels (DSRVs) used to rescue submarine personnel in distress.
  • Represents a major technological and operational milestone for the Indian Navy.
