NASA Unveils Surya AI Model to Decode Sun’s Behaviour

On 20^th August 2025, NASA introduced the Surya Heliophysics Foundational Model, an AI system developed with IBM and partners to analyse the Sun’s complex activity and improve space weather forecasting.

• Trained on nine years of continuous data from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), Surya helps predict solar eruptions and flares, which threaten satellites, GPS, communication networks, and power grids.
• Initial tests show Surya can provide visual forecasts up to two hours in advance, performing 16% better than current prediction methods.
