Quasi Satellites

In September 2025, astronomers confirmed that asteroid 2025 PN7 is Earth’s newest quasi-satellite — a type of space rock that orbits the Sun, but in such a way that it appears to stay close to Earth.

  • Unlike a true moon, a quasi-satellite is not gravitationally bound to Earth; instead, it shares a similar orbital period around the Sun, making it seem like a temporary companion in the sky.
