Evidence of an Ancient River in the Ganga-Yamuna Doab
- Recently, during aquifer mapping focused on paleo-channels in Uttar Pradesh, the existence of an ancient river was identified.
- Paleo-channel mapping revealed that the river, buried at a depth of 15–25 meters, stretched about 200 km in length and 4 km in width.
- This ancient river had an estimated water storage capacity of 3,500–4,000 million cubic meters.
- The mapping was conducted under the Namami Gange Mission, in the Ganga–Yamuna Doab region between Prayagraj and Kanpur.
- Satellite imagery and geospatial data were used for this mapping ....
