Women’s Role in India’s Financial Growth Socio- Economic
On 3rd March 2025, NITI Aayog launched a report, titled “From Borrowers to Builders: Women’s Role in India’s Financial Growth Story”.
- The report was published in collaboration with TransUnion CIBIL, Women Entrepreneurship Platform’s (WEP) of NITI Aayog and MicroSave Consulting (MSC).
- It sheds light on women’s participation in credit markets, entrepreneurship, and financial independence.
Key Observations
Growth in Women Borrowers
- Women seeking credit have tripled between 2019 and 2024.
- In 2024, women borrowers grew by 42% year-over-year.
- Nearly 60% of women borrowers are from semi-urban or rural areas. Despite these gains, young women under 30 still account for only 27% of retail credit ....
