Students’ Mental Health Concerns: SC Forms National Task Force
On 24th March 2025, the Supreme Court (SC) of India, taking note of the increasing trend of student suicides in higher educational institutions, formed a National Task Force (NTF) to address the mental health concerns of students and prevent such incidents.
What is the reason behind the formation of NTF?
- Disturbing Pattern of Suicides: The SC pointed out a "disturbing pattern" of student suicides in schools, including private universities across the nation.
- Ineffective Legal & Institutional Framework: There is lack of effective legal & institutional framework necessary to prevent suicides by students.
