50th Anniversary of Sikkim’s Statehood
- On 29 May 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed the event “Sikkim@50: Where Progress Meets Purpose and Nature Nurtures Growth” held in Gangtok, Sikkim, to mark the 50th anniversary of Sikkim’s statehood.
- May 16 is annually commemorated as Sikkim Day, marking the former kingdom’s integration with India in 1975.
- The princely state of Sikkim became an associate state of India in 1974 through the 35th Constitutional Amendment Act.
