India’s First Indigenous IBR Vaccine

On 29th September 2025, Indian Immunologicals Limited launched India’s first indigenously developed glycoprotein E (gE) deleted DIVA marker vaccine against infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), named Raksha-IBR.

  • The vaccine enables differentiation between infected and vaccinated animals.
  • The vaccine targets infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), caused by Bovine Herpes Virus 1 (BHV-1).
  • IBR spreads through aerosols and infected bull semen, primarily affecting the reproductive system of cattle.
  • Major impacts of IBR include infertility, abortions, and reduced milk productivity.
  • No prior vaccine or specific treatment for IBR existed in India before Raksha-IBR.
