National Statistics Day

National Statistics Day is celebrated every year on 29 June to mark the birth anniversary of late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis’s work in the field of Statistics.

  • The day was observed for the first time on June 29, 2007.
  • PC Mahalanobis is known as the father of Indian statistics.
  • He was also a member of the first Planning Commission of India.

  • In 1950, he established the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) with a Statistical Laboratory.
