World Press Freedom Index 2019
- India’s rank in the index dropped down to 140thfrom 138thin 2018 which is two points below the previous year.
- The index has been topped by Norway followed by Finland. Turkmenistan has been placed at the last in the rankings. Ranks of China, Pakistan, Bangladesh are 177, 142 and 150 respectively.
- The Report finds that hatred of journalists has degenerated into violence, contributing to an increase in fear around the world.
- The Middle East and North Africa region continues to be the most difficult and dangerous for journalists.
